Hi everyone. I am thinking about venturing into wolf fish. Can any one tell me how big the Red High fin Wolf Fish get? Also would it be possible to house them with similiar size or larger polypterus and knife fish? Thanks
They get about 8" in length and dont seem to be aggressive to most other tankmates. They do fight with others of their kind though so if you get more then one, make sure theres alot of hiding places. Still kinda iffy keepin them with other tankmates though cause they only need to bite once...
how big was the firemouth and how big was the wolf fish, I wanted to put a baby red wolf with my CA tang but I have 1 4inch firemouth... u think it will b ok...
not a firemouth but a more aggressive cichlid like a parachromis or a JD but then you woulld have to upgrade your tank but not for like a year though , also give alot of hiding spaces
you'll be happier with a species only setup. without the worry of incompatibility. They are interesting as they are already. All you need to do is make sure you have enough places for him to hide when he wants to and he'll start chasing your finger in no time.
if you get him young and raise him with tankmates hell be fine with a polyp and knife. If you keep him solo and he learns to eat/bite anything that touches the water, he will kill everything he sees. My red wolfish is housed with a pike cichlid, 4 datnoids, 2 spiny eels, a chaca chaca, 7 plecos, 2 pictus cat fish, a stingray, a geophagus and rainbow fish. He only fights with dats and pike when they get near his home (under a java matt), other than that he only kills smaller things to eat, besides one large angel that had a perfectly cut half circle out of it Here is my red wolf: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5cIQ6bP6bA
