Red Hook Silver dollars

This is by no means a monster of any kind, but I don't know where or who else to ask. Does anyone know how to sex red hook siver dollars? I have a pair and one has a bright red anal fin and the others is very faint red and it has some dark stripes/blotches on its body. They seemed to do some sort of spawning ritual where they swam next to each other and undulated their sides together, but never saw any eggs.

Please give me some info regarding spawning habits of these fish and how to sex them.

I got my blood parotts to spawn with weekly water changes but they are sterile so its not as exciting. thanks

I can find no record of anyone spawning them in an aquarium. Since they bury their eggs in a sandy bottom in the wild I would think they would require a deep sand substrate and like silver dollars, soft water.

my two silver dollars do the exact same thing tthat yours do all the time. when this occurs two black dots about the size of a dime appear on the side of the smaller one. never seen any eggs though. interesting to watch. it can go on for hours at a time.

Mine has the identical black dots also, the one with the dots has a much lighter in color hook. I have never seen eggs, the guy I got the tank and fish from said there have been eggs on the plants before but never any babys. I think they might have been red parrott eggs again.
