Hi,

Any thoughts on keeping just 2 red hook silver dollars. I know most people normally keep these fish in large schools, but my tank already has a pretty high bioload and I don't want to overload it. Any thoughts on having just 2 of em in the tank?

Thanks a bunch. :)

If you already have a large bioload, and are concerned that you might overload with more than 2 SD's, I say DO NOT go for it.

I have kept many species of SD's and some tend to be very very skittish even in large schools. And yes these fish do best in groups of 6 or more. Two MIGHT work if you have other active schooling fish in the tank and the two SD's are not aggressive (Sd's can be very nippy and aggressive towards their own kind).... but in general 6 or more is recommended.

I have two Sd's in one of my tanks and they do very well but they were picked out of 40+ SD's that I had in another tank. They were always being picked on and were the least aggressive from the whole group so I decided to move to another tank. They are peaceful as can be and "School" together. They do seem to be more skittish though even in a 6ft long tank.
