Red hooks getting orange spots

i noticed 2 of my red hooks are getting orange spots on them. Has anyone ever seen this before ?

Nice collection you got there. Were those spots alway there on your dollars? Mine just started getting them and was wondering what they are

Don't know the reason but my old school of 9 red hooks had them also. Some had it, some didn't. They were around 9".

Yeah mine just started to get them. Out of 5 of them 2 has them.

Male vs female?

Males and females get them. Mine started to develop them after about 6 months or so

Mine have them too - I've read that males get them, and females don't? But I could be wrong. It just shows they're maturing.

I've heard that there are different species of red hooks hence the reason why some get it and some don't. I had some that were bought as a undescribed sp. green that turned out to be red hooks without spots but had a reddish blush to their sides.
