Hi All
I have a breeding pair of red jewels (h. cristatus) who have just finnished their breeding cycle, the last lay was about a week ago. I thought great some peace and quite in the tank for a while but a couple of days ago the male went postal and nearly killed the female (she is reovering in a seperate tank) and has been generally agressive to everything else in the tank, alot worse than when they were breeding.
Will I be able to reintergrate the female?
Is there anything I can do to lessen the males aggresion? or will he have to go?

Thanks

Ollie

Are you positive that this is a pair...otherwise i would say the female is too immature at this time... may have to separate and wait until she grows and is ready..also have caves and fake plants for her to hide... Pics would be nice .. Are the jewels the only fish in the tank.. are there other jewels..

Definitly a pair as I have a dozen or so fry left .75-1"(will be going to my lfs when I get a chance) from their first lay. They have laid 3 times in total. I havent got a full tank pic but here are the fish (I have a rubbish camera sorry)

My tanks has large flat peice of root wood that makes caves and 75% or more is planted with mainly crypts.

Thanks

How bigs the tank.....are there any hiding places for the fish, does the male have an established territory?

i would add a few more females if possible for mr super stud... female sounds like she needs a rest from him....both are beauties

Lol I put in 4 to start off with but they so intolerant of their own species when these 2 paired off I had to remove the others as they would actively seek them out and attack them.

i only mean 4 females to the one male .. yes they will fight if more then one male with females around..

Sounds like the male is ready to get his groove on again and the female isn't ready. I would wait a couple of weeks and try putting her back in. I think they should be ok. You might have to remove her again after the next batch. You just have a super horny male :-P
