good morning everyone.

wanted to reach out and see if anyone would have an idea what this is. a little background to my set up. I have a 110 gallon tank. fluval FX5 running, water and ph are 7.0-7.2.

tank mates are 5 other red mammons and they are healthy and laying eggs

I noticed the "growth" about 2 weeks ago and it looked like an embedded zit that just got bigger and bigger until the white growth started to protrude.

I have him in a quarantine tank now, with salt and Mardel Coppersafe going. this morning the big growth fell off so that was good to see but there is still fungus looking stuff below his eye.

Any idea of what this might be and what treatment you would recommend?

thank you everyone!

It could possibily be Lymphocystis which is a virus, you could look it up and read about it to see if you feel it's a match.

The other idea could be an erupted localized infection like a cyst. While you had it out of the tank did you try to move it and see what it was like? I wouldn't touch it just use a parer towel or somthing (wet it first) if it comes off remove it and put the drop of iodine on the site. If it doesn't come off put a drop a drop of Iodine directly on it and put some aquarium salt in the tank about 1 table spoon per 5 gallons of tank water. If it's alocal infection you should see a differance In 24/48 hours. If it is an ifection it should start to subside with the Iodine and salt. If it is viral there is no cure it may not be fatal but it is contagious and could spread to your other fish. Keep us posted on how this goes.

as Tom said.

I will just add, as I usually do, to lower the temps. I am an adept of cooler waters in these situations because organisms tend to develeop slowre....
