I'm sorry for the lack of pic, I will try to get one up later. I have a white crappie that has a red mark under it's skin on it's back area, any ideas on what it may be? It looks almost like a blood clot. I had some feeder rosies in there and one of them had a similar red spot, but it was more like a big bump. Thanks.

From what I have heard crappie are pretty delicate in aquaria. It might have contracted a virus from the feeders. Remove the rosys and do a water change and try feeding the crappie waxworms or maggots and see if it gets better. My rockbass had a similar tye of virus near the top of his back (from feeders I believe) and I just let him heal that way.

Did it heal and look normal again? The feeders were removed as soon as I saw the sore on the one, but the crappie developed the spot later. I am only feeding them bloodworms and krill right now. I figured it was some sort of virus, but am not sure and not sure what to do for treatment. I have some melafix I can use if it becomes an open wound.

Yea he got 100% better without even a scar. I just made sure my water was always fresh and fed him bloodworms and sometimes nightcrawlers and I still limit feeding him rosy reds. If I feed him feeders I might throw in a couple convict fry every now and then just for fun.. Its been almost a year since he had the infection and it has never reoccured. If I remember correctly it cleared up in a week or two. I just let it heal on its own, but like I said rockbass IMO are a little hardier than crappie.
