I am looking for a species of mbuna that is RED, not orange or pink or has red in it's name but an actual RED mbuna.

P.s If there is no such species, do tell.

Cause I don't know much about peacocks...

I'm looking to do a set-up for my Do-Jang, my Master's colors are blue and red. There are plenty of blue species. lol

How many peacocks could I keep in a 55 gal and do they like the same rocky environment that mbunas like?

No offense, but do you really have 3 red tail cats and 2 silver arros in a 55?

Stocked in that manner, you could easily fit 40-50 adult male peacocks in a 55.

Seriously though, you could keep 5-6 adult male peacocks in a 55, but they'd need to be different colors, otherwise they'd beat on each other and only 1-2 would color up. This sort of defeats your purpose.

You could try a group of ruby red peacocks with 2-3 males and 6-8 females and 2 1/2 of the males may color up. I wouldn't try it with with any jacobfreibergi - they're pretty rough and most likely only one will color as adults.

Alternatively, you could set up a 75 with red empress - they are blue and red. In a tank that size, you could only do 1M/3F though.

:D No I don't own any of those fish... You forgot the poor betta though!!!

Thanks I will look at that.

It's hard to find a true red freshwater fish. Trust me, I've looked.

You definitely won't find any red in the mbunas. Even with peacocks and haps, you'll have to find a really good quality fish to get close to red.

From my years of searching, Festae are as red as it gets when it comes to freshwater. Even that, only females show red.

Blood Red Parrots are Red from good breeders....and they can mix with Mbuna

Well darn. I think we'll do blue and yellow instead.
