Hi all, i was just after some info and the red monkey cichlid? (hybrid)

Mine is about 4/5" and female, will she fade or will she just turn as she grows? what sort of size will she achieve? there is next to no useful info on them online, so any help would be fantastic!

Thanks in advance!

red monkey or red shock, etc typically reach the same size as your standard flowerhorns. Most of the Red Monkeys I've seen are kamfa, vieja synspilum, or red mammon aka super king kong parrot. They get the a real deep red/orange color. They generally start out grey and eventually fade. Post some pics, might help.

These are the most recent, she had layed a few days before these

like chris said, may fade, may not...only time will tell. Also I think the first red monkeys were bred with midas/devil sometimes. Or that may be more with the Rose Queens. They are very similar in my opinion, because of the vieja genes, but you will rarely get a rose queen to look like a deep colored red monkey. I have seen rose queens with deep orange colors.

to be honest, I cannot discern between the 2. I'm not even sure what actually distinguishes the two apart. their blood seems very very similar. Maybe someone who knows the strain very well can chime in. imo, yours seems to lean towards red monkey.

she's red monkey but not a good quality one..
what makes her disticntly a red monkey is the definition of those lips... everything else is just "so so"

But what makes her "so so" from a quality rM are the light pearls on her, pointy mouth, and the Midas-like fins. Then she aint faded but cant blame that on nothing..

But yeah she's mostly RM but not a solid one
