Hi all. I'm pretty good at sexing dovii, but red morphs have me stumped. I have this 5 inch red morph. Will I need to vent, or can anyone tell by this pic?

I’ve kept a ton of the reg morph but never the red, looking at this fish it seems like it has the lateral dots like normal male dovii have...

They seem to be tougher to sex, check out GuapoteMel on youtube. Looks like he has a female that most would say is a male if you went with the spotting as a sign like normal Dovii. I don't think he's 100% sure yet but looks like a normal color male and this one I'm talking about have paired up.

My largest and most dominant of 4 turned out female. Got eggs last week. She's 8-9" and the other three are 5-7". I can't tell for crap.

It laid eggs by itself, or it paired up with a smaller male? If it paired up, who is fanning the eggs?
The breeding tube must look completely different in person, because when I watched this video it looks way too pointed at the tip and curved to be female.(https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/...vii-colorations.723611/page-5#post-8228784the Tip should be very blunt at that size to be female. Maybe it looks different in person, but it looks like a carbon copy of my male dovii whith in a day or so of fertilizing eggs. My male bred with a female festae; witnessed the act probably close to 10 times and seen the eggs coming out of the festae and got fry at least twice. Had many female dovii back in the '80's and like any other substrate spawner when there tube comes out, it is blunt at the tip and very wide at the base.

I'm getting 9 more ranging from 4-8 inches. I guess I'll just grow them out in my 1200 gallon and see!

There are other smaller dovii in the tank, but no paired fish. The only fish near the pot was the one in the photo, and it was the one fanning the eggs. Eggs were not fertile and were eaten after a day.

Just looked back at my post. Must say I need to work a bit on my spelling and English grammar. Never was the sharpest knife in the block at school lol.
