Red Parrot gender s'

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Its Usually only Known the sex If it has bred before becasue they look the same,

But most of the time you have to wait until you get eggs then its a female

Sometimes Males Get a Slight KOK

Fish don't have genders, they have sexes though.
The head structure is how you can distinguish a male bp from a female bp. It's in the slope from the top of the body to the snout. Slope of a female is straighter

Druu... can you find a detailed picture to show us what you mean? i want to know how to tell the sex of my bp's. Thanks ahead!

Sure, I'm not completely sure about this method of ID, but I've seen it bounced around a bit. Pics are from google, first is a male second a female. Notice the notch in the head shape of the male and the relatively smooth line from head to lips in female.

Thanks Druu! So now i know i have both male and females.. :D

Glad i could help. I actually picked up this technique reading the boards. My LFS has had a trio of males sitting in their tank for a while... still waiting on a female.

The only way to 100% sex BP's is once they become sexually active and the milk and egg tubes drop down.
