I've heard conflicting reports on these fish. I am aware the red scat is usually considered a colour variant of the green scat. I have heard the red scat is more aggressive than the green scat. Can anyone offer any personal experience on these scats.

I don't think there is any difference with aggression issues. Very similar fish with different markings. All scats have a tendency to bicker with themselves. Either get 1 or several and keep them in a large tank.

I currently have the chance to get both, for the same price per scat. There is a size difference between them. The greens are larger, but I can get more of them. The reds are smaller and would work better in my current setups till I set up a tank specifically for the scats. I'm tempted to get both but I think that 3" scats would get picked on by 6" scats.

If you get a large enough group consisting of both types, you shouldn't have too many problems - I'd say 5-7 in total. Smaller groups = more bickering.
