Hey guys, I decided to finally make a 10 gallon planted tank... and the subtrate my LFS had available was Red Sea Florabase. I bought a bag and coated the bottom and now the tank is just cycling...
do i need to have a type of other substrate on top? Like Gravel or Sand? Or is it find as a primary substrate. I dont plan on putting any fish other than a few neon tetras or shrimps later. thanks

I would use sand for your top layer. A fine grade sand allows the plants to root easier, send out shoots, and develop a strong root bed that will eventually develop into the florabase.

How thick should I make the sand? The Florabase is already like an inch thick.... so another inch of sand or not even that?
