Hey Everybody,

Havent been on in a long time...busy sleeping lol on vacation from school. I'm looking at my tank and notice red slime algae about an inch of it on one of my rocks. Is thier any easy solutions to this?

Also I'm trying to jam another thing in this thread:

I have a skinny mimic tang, I'm pretty sure I feed a lot (Mixture of brine, mysis, plankton, dahphinia and Ocean Nutrition Formula Two Marine Pellets). I've tried nori sheets for a long time and it just doesn't eat it or even attempt to bite it. I feed the fish through a syringe so I do see them all eating ...even the mimic any other high nutrition foods out thier?

you have high phosphates (thats what fuels the slime).

cut your lights off for a few days the slime will be gone. then maybe run GFO thru a reactor (and your sump) to keep the phosphate in check. thats prob the easiest/fastest way.

Hey Pazzo, WB. To answer you first question.... There are a couple products that you can buy that target the cyano and eliminate it. I dont know how well it works, I have never had to try it. You can also start trying a couple other things. Cyano feeds off of PO4, DOC's and NO3. So if you can eliminate 1 or all 3 you should be able to kill the bacteria. You can also run your lights a little bit shorter if you have them on for more than like 9 hours.

Or that.

Ok no problem will get on the light situation now, if this proceeds in a couple of weeks I will purchase a reactor... thanks for the replies

Fixed my problem pretty much as well...
cover the tank with towels, turn the lights off and leave them off for 3 days...don't touch them...throw in a little bit of food just for your inverts...but other than that, don't touch the tank.

Would my corals be effect with no lights for three days?

You will probably have to target feed them because they wont be able to photosynthesize, but other than that they should be fine for a couple days.

corals will be fine. consider it for them a 3 day rain storm in the ocean hehe :D

Yeah they will be fine, target feed before you turn the lights off to make sure they get plenty...and after that they will be fine...
