i have a nano tank with some coral in it.. i have some mushroom coral and i cant remember what this other is called but it has a bunch of green little fan things that come out ... it has not been out in about a week because there is so much red slime on it ... i have a bottle of biodegradable red slime algae cure that is safe for corals that i have been using.. it doesnt seem to be clearing it up much .. what can i do... where i bought it .. the guy said that it was photosynthetic soo should i shut the light off so the algae doesnt grow or will that bother the coral??? 100 dollars worth of coral please help!!

keep ur lights on, red slime algae will go away with patience, try to feed ur fish less, stop with the chemicals too, it may be harming ur corals, increase ur flow and every time algae settles on ur coral, just blow it off with a turkey baster or something similar.

Water changes will definitly help. Make sure you are only using RO water from a good source. You don't want to put any extra nitrates or phosphates into the water. The red slime is feeding on the extra nutrients in the water. It will go away with time and patience. Until it goes away water changes will definitly help you out.

Actually, light is feeding it. The reason you have it is due to high phosphate levels. To combat that, you get two options.

1) water changes using RO (tap water will just feed it more phosphate)
2) phosphate absorbing media in your filter

Also, what is your calcium level at? Are you doing a calcium addition of any kind? Keep it around 400 or so. It will help choke it out. It's probably not going to go away on it's own.

What's your water flow like "how many times per hour does your tank turn over?" Also could you have a dead spot? Try putting a couple of drops of milk into the tank to see. What do you have in your clean up crew and tell us more about your tank in general substrate, amount of live rock etc.
Normally, cyano is pretty easy to get rid of .
Please help us help you.
Cheers
Max

Chemi-Clean will irradicate it completely in 1 or 2 treatments. Totally safe, didn't even bother my anemone.
