have been researching red bay snooks and all of my sources contradict eachother over the size. the LFS i would buy it from says that they get 8in long 1 of my books says 14in, another says18 in, and an internet site says 24in. which is true and is there anything i should know about this kind of fish? he would go in a 180 gallon aquarium.

I have run into the same information. In the wild they probably get 18 - 24 inches long. Depending on tank probably a male with get to at least 12 inches. Would be fine in a 180. I saw one this weekend in a pet store that was a foot long and was nice. I almost had to get it even though I definitely don't need it. They look real nice at that size.

12" is a decent sized one. I have yet to see one over 14", and 18-24 is just ludicrous.

They're a peaceful fish with delicate mouths that really shouldn't be with fish that like to lip-lock as they're easily damaged. (I should know...I just lost half a breeding pair to some breeding devils...)

Males will obtain 18"+ and females 12"+ under good circumstances.

lol I've seen with my own eyes 2 males in a tank that were 18" and 15" that someone had just traded in. Ashdavid has a female that is ~12". I always get a kick out of the "I need proof" response lol. It should not be too hard to believe that keeping fish in large tanks with proper feeding and water chemistry will result in large fish.

Ive got loads of snooks between 8-10" and a big male that is a solid 15"
