I want to get a piranha for my forty gallon, and the two above are in my price and size range. The tankmates will be a red wolf and two sens, and an African butterfly if compatible. Which of the two listed above would be better?

Piranhas are better off in a single species tank. More times than not the piranha is gonna eat its tankmates piece by piece. It would be extremely risky in a big tank and nearly impossible in a 40 gallon. But don't let me think for you, do what you want and keep us posted.

You can keep one of them in there without the other fish . That wolf is going to out grow the 40 in no time anyway

@dudey, the piranhas get larger and need more space than the wolf, maybe you didn't understand, but it is a red wolf, not a normal wolf.
@DarthRhomb, are you sure that they are that aggressive? I was hoping that I would find a less aggressive species. Do you think my chances would be better since the other fish are bottom dwellers and would be able to escape into a giant clump of java moss if the piranha chased them?

Either way the piranha will nip and harass the other fish before eventually taking a bite out of them they won't recover from . Serrasalmus for the most part need to be kept solo in a tank

any fish you keep with piranha is a potential food source to the piranha (unless it's big enough to eat the piranha), providing a lot of hiding space helps a bit but that fish may just constantly hide and never come out so why even bother??
or that fish could die from stress if piranha doesn't kill it directly.
