We have 6 red spot gold sevrums and have only had them lay eggs once they are in a 230g SA tank and that is where they laid eggs we took the eggs out to hatch them but they all turned white. Is there an easy way to sex them so we could put a pair in another tank reason I ask is incase the ones that laid eggs were 2 females.

Males have squiggly lines across the face where females have dots, Males grow bigger and darken before they breed.

In ideal conditions a male and female will pair off. Leave the eggs with the parents, just remove and sell the rest of the sevs and you will be left with a breeding pair. Alot of times cichlids will fail with their first couple batches of eggs. Paranting doesnt always come easy for them.
How big are they? You can post some pics and we can try to sex them for you.

This works for most other severums but is not the case with super red or red spotted severums. Females can and often have just as much facial markings as the males.

I'm interested as well I have one of these a green seven and rotkiel. Will these sevs breed with each other as well?

I will look closely at their faces tommorow the reason we took the eggs out we have a catfish in the tank thought he would eat the eggs during the night. they are about5 inches long now except for one smaller one we want to keep as many as possible because they are pricey fish here. As for breeding 2 different kinds of sevrums I heard they go back to basic wild caught coloring but dont know if that is true. Will try and get some pics posted soon.
