Can anyone tell me if this is something i need to worry about. My black belt has a couple of red growths on his bottom fin hard to see in the pic though.

Have you tried touching it gently? Does it seem soft and almost squishy (don't squish!) or hard? Does it look like cauliflower growth? It's hard to see from the photo. Do you have abrasive decorations? What are tank size and tankmates? Maintenance routine?

Please post as many details as you can to help us find out more on the cause and how it can be prevented. In the meantime, what I would do is grab some Q-tips and apply iodine solution on that growth. It can be effective on infections assuming this is an injury.

It is possible that its an injury. for decor all i have is a few plants, some drift wood, and a couple of stones. tank mates are a baby red tail catfish, another black belt, a red belly pacu, a big pleco, and a tiger oscar. the pacu is getting big quick so he's becoming a little more aggresive. i'm getting a much bigger tank soon so it'll be better for him

Try the iodine solution but the fish needs to be separated to allow its issue to heal without interference by its tankmates.
