Hi everyone,
I've been away for about 4 weeks due to a sudden death in the family. My neighbors have been feeding my 3 goldfish for me and during the time I was away the water would not have been changed. I have noticed my little comet has red spots on his body, 1 on one side with patches of red on the other. Under his fin (on the belly) there is red that looks like blood, I'm sure it's not blood though.
When I got home, he was not active and sitting on the bottom of the tank. I have changed the water, added start rite and he is much more active today. The tank is 60 liters and holds 3 fish. The ph levels are high at the moment at 7, I have added a neutralizer block but this has not changed to ph level.
My questions are, what are the red spots and how can I treat them. Also other than constant water changes how do I fix the water quality in my tank. I'm aware that being away so long and not having the water changed has caused this problem and I feel awful about it, however I had to leave suddenly and was just happy that someone could feed them for me.
I will be adding photos or a video of the comet with the red spots later this evening.
Any advice in the meantime will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks everyone.
