Hello,

I have a pumpkinseed in a 40 g tank, he's probably like 4 inches long, with 3 red spots on his caudal fin. They are fairly large, don't look like ick, and seem to be getting bigger, they look like some kind of fungus growing on the tail. I don't have a picture of it, so I know that makes it tough, but I have searched the forums here extensively to see if there were any instances of this, but I found nothing.

I do add some salt to the tank with water changes about once a week, should I add more salt? are there any other treatments I should try?

edit: These are wild caught fish from the Chesapeake bay, they've been in the tank about a month, I read that de-los may help, a this might be encapsulated worm larvae....

My guess without pics is a bacterial infection, i would recommend Jungle brand Fungus or bacterial fizz tabs. The salt is not a bad idea, but i wouldnt overdo that, there are studies that show too much salt in freshwater aquariums, can cause kidney failure
