What are these bars on my red spot gold severum? Ammonia levels are 0 so I don’t think they are ammonia burns E0246CEA-F12E-4BA7-B989-4DB9003F2A8C.png

The original severum that the gold color morph comes from has bars so this could be the remnants of those bars.
It’s also possible that this is the offspring of a gold severum that has been breed back to a normal severum.
Could be stress bars.
Is there anything going on in the tank to stress him? You mentioned ammonia.
What are the other values for nitrites and nitrate, Ph, temps , tank mates?

All parameters are good, tankmates are just other south american cichlids and a JD but none of them bother him at all? Could he just be a poorly bred mut and his bars are just starting to show ?

It’s likely the result of a line that has been bred back to a non-leucistic Heros. Some juvenile golds/reds do show bars which is typical of non-gold/red juvenile Heros. Most Heros show their bars all the time until they reach about 4” or so and the adult colors start to come in. They should fade as the fish gets older.
