ive had a red spotted for a year now, got him or her when they were only an inch long, about 4 inches now and today i got them a friend, about 8 inches long and would be interested if anyone could give their opinion on the sex of each,i had always assumed the smaller to be a male but seeing it next to the new larger one and the difference in shape has made me think again...

the smaller severum

Someone here told me to look at the faces males will have squiggly lines females just dots nice fish we have some too,

thanks, i think i read that somewhere a while ago but then read another post that said both males and females red spotted severums have squiggles on their faces?

to be honest i didnt realise the new one was quite so much bigger than my existing one, or i might have thought twice about getting it but so far so good!

got it for £35 which for an 8 inch fish is unbelievably considering i paid £25 for my smaller one when it was about 1.5-2 inches!

I've heard that both male and female super reds have the lines on the face. It's a bit hard to say. I think the bigger one is definitely a male. The only reason I'm leaning toward a female with the smaller one is because a lot of my femail efasciatus seem to have shorter, taller bodies while the males are more elongated. It's a total guess, though.
