My 18 in red tail smashed his heater and ate a big piece of glass. he has had the glass in him for about a day and a half. any advice or predictions? thanks

Ouch! Nothing you can do but let nature take its coarse. Hope it works out ...let us know.

My rtc did the same thing but smaller mine swallowed a floating thermostat and regergitated two days later. and that glass was broken.

had mine swallow a few pieces of heaters before. Now I only do titanium heaters with big catfish. Give him some worms it's a natural laxitive. Might make it come up quicker. I have also seen where someone's tsn ate a piece of sharp pottery and it eventually bore it's way outside the fish, and the guy pulled it out and sewed him back up and he lived. So you never know, but never put glass anything in with big catfish. They are too curious and hungry for their own good!

Wise words.

man o man, worms might be the only answer...
Add some magnesium sulphate to the tank (Epsom Salts) and increase temp
by 3-4 degrees fahrenheit. This laxative and the increase temp will speed up metabolic rate and if it is not excreted within 48 hours it will be regurgitated. Keep a VERY close eye on him though, problem with huge regurgitation is that it could wipe out your filter bacteria if big enough due to bile etc being excreted with object/s. If it is thrown up get all bits of solids out asap and then carry out a water change immediately. Good luck. I'm unsure how their digestive system could cope with glass, I had one to 31.5" that ate a 12" rainbow trout every 5 days and waste was mainly in the form of huge ammonia bursts augmented by (very) small calcium pebbles (the bones) from the trout.
