He has not really been eating like he used to, and before this started he was laboring to breath. Then one day I looked and he had a double chin going for him. He's only like 8-10 months old I'd have to say. I looks to have veins running through it. I'm wounder if its actually a tumor or something he did to himself or ate. His tank mates are 3 severums and a bristle nose pleco.

how big is he? what tank size? water parameters?

at 8-10 months old he should be around 25-30 inches

i honestly cant say weird growth i havent seen before..but that RTC should be way bigger..

also what our you feeding him. its normal for rtc to hit 24 in the first year his tank mates should of bin lunch a long time ago.

its about 6" he was about about an 1 1/2" when I got it. To say it should be bigger then 2 feet in less then a year you would have to be smoking crack. He's in a 30 now will go to a 125 then to a very large pond.

It IS common for them to get over a foot in less than a year, sometimes even bigger. Water changes, good filtration, and food are the key factors.

His head shape is all rather strange, my guess is he got some sort of infection and it just swelled and got inflamed...not sure how or why though...

when young they're supposed to grow about an inch a week.. they're one of the fastest growing fish in the hobby when properly cared for
