Red tail cat won’t stop swimming

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I make dividers out of an eggcrate light diffuser panels found at any Home Depot or Lowes, etc. Yeah, the little guy got it pretty good. It wasn't a bite. It looks like many repetitive bites or even an attempt to swallow tail first. That RTC just can't catch a break. If the RTC was otherwise strong and healthy and eating well, the tail would likely grow back ok.

Poor little guy, If I haven’t already ordered a diff divider i would go to homedepot after class I didn’t think to do it that way and had to spend more then i would have liked to and def more than it was worth on Amazon

It looks pretty bad I just got back for spring break thank god and the rtc is swimming at top level and there is blood in his fins I have a little tank that is made for lizards with a vented top if I put that in his tank and put the rtc in that until the tank divider comes do u guys think that would be a good idea? Cuz I dont want the other rtc to get mess him up even more tonight

This is what I had in mind, put this small tank in side of the 75 growout tank, sink it to the bottom, keep him in here for 2 days until the actual divider gets here

Looks like all its fins have been bit, some more some less. The tail looks the worst by far. That's what catfish often do to enforce dominance - bite tail fin. Definitely implicates the other RTC but IDK what else is in the tank and what their sizes are.

Every fish MUST have access to air at all times. Sunken cage will not work. If you can keep it partly emerged and still have water go through freely, that could work until the divider comes. One can use any plastic tub, like those used for files, etc. and drill a bunch of holes, like 1" diameter and use that suspended at the surface, a bit emerging.

Then all I can do is hope because I have no other way of dividing the tank

I’ve had multiple rtc and tiger shovel nose in the same tank before but never have I ever had aggresion this badly to the point where almost his whole tailfin got ripped of

Things vary from tank to tank. It is not always predictable. You luck out once, you don't another time. Do you not have a large tub anywhere in your house? You can buy one from Walmart for very little. Or make a cage or a divider from the diffuser panel. The night is still young?

Ima be honest with you, when a fish is already that stressed with questionable water quality, then it’s attacked to the brink of death... it might not make it bro.
