Does anyone know the feeding instructions for a redtail catfish? I have packages of blood worms and beef heart. I just got the guy today. :D :headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

Feed him several times a day. What he can consume in a 5 minute period. They are very greedy eaters but feeding a little at several times a day will result in very good growth.

can anyone tell me why my rtc is just chilling behind one spot the whole day?

It's a catfish, that's what they do... A large number of species are nocturnal and become active when the lights go out.

Agree and disagree. Yes feed them a few/x/day when small. However, I do not agree with the whole time thing. What if I had mine @ 2" in a 5g tank and dumped food in there. He would nearly eat himself to death in that time. Now say I have the same fish in a 200g tank. He would barely eat a single scrap before 5 minutes was up, and to keep the tank clean would have to remove the food so it didnt decay.

Check out my sticky in the catfish section. :headbang2

Don't do the whole time thing, because if i sat there i could feed my RTC till he popped with fish fillets (btw he would keep eating till he did pop). Start out small and let him eat it and if you think that he could have a little more then give it to them but don't pour a bunch in cuz he will eat all of it and won't stop.
If you think that a fish could fit inside it's mouth it will fit. They are known for eating heaters and powerheads, they will find a way to fit the fish in there mouth....even if that means eating half of it at a time while the other half sticks out there mouth.

I currently bought another 240 gallon and I am growing out some monster cats for my 1032 gallon pond. Out of the 5 cats I have my RTC is the least aggressive as far as eating. As a matter of fact I have to hand feed him. Where as my other cats TSN, and Channel to name a few gorge themselves. Don't know if my was the runt or just lazy but not eating or growing as fast as the others.
