hey oddball what diet did you give your rtc and what size did they get.
Gut-loaded shiners, gut-loaded crayfish, catfish nuggets, trout/tilapia fillets, earthworms, trimmed beef heart, sinking catfish pellets, raw shell-on shrimp, "donated" tropicals, cleaned squid, shelled land snails, tadpoles, frogs, etc.
Got mine at 6". Fed it daily with one fasting day for purging. Once it hit a foot, I fed it 3 days on and one day of fasting. At 2ft, fed it on alternate days. As they grow, their growth rate will incrementally slow down. So, will their activity level. That's the reason for the step ups in the number of fasting days. It's all meant to reduce the risk of nitrite poisoning (Methemoglobin) which is the leading killer of aquarium-kept RTCs.
My last pair reached 30" before a stupid (on my part) water change mistake killed them off via hypothermia and chlorine shock.
