Has anybody successfully transferred a RTC to a pond after it had grown to be too large? Right now i have one about 8 inches long in my 72 gal and before you all start bashing me on how big they get I did all the research on them BEFORE getting one and I am aware of how big they get my next tank will be at least 300 gal. (Speaking of if you have one for sale in central ca let me know :) ) But anyway I also know that after he outgrows my 300 gal I want to put him in my (not built yet) pond..... My fronty yard pond will probably be around 700-800 gallons but the problem is it’s going to be cold water has anybody ever had any luck transferring a RTC to a cold pond like that? Or should I think about how to heat said pond??? LOL!

By the way... RTC should not be sold to minors!!!

it wont make it over winter i have one that i just took out of my pond for the winter plus a bunch of other fish that wont make it also..

why do you say it shouldint be sold to minors??? and i would heat the pond. its gonna have to be bigger than 800 gallons more like min 1000+ gallons.he will hit the 2foot mark in a year if fed right and has a good diet..dont feed him feeders there bad for fish. i have my rtc's out side druing the summer when its 30c out or 80+F but i bring them in at the middle or end of aug..

My red is well over the 3 foot mark and living in a 1000g pond which was outside now in the fish house coz keeping it heated out side was far to expencive for me hear in the uk heating all year round so now its indoors the cost has come right down :) but still use a koi pond heater to keep it steady. But with the right filter ie (Nexus 200) you wont go far wrong.

Move the pond indoors.... good idea Dan... I bet I can build a sort of "green house" around the pond to help with heating... dont know why I didnt think of that...
