Are the two species really that similar I've been told the only difference is color and the fact that a RTC will eat dead fish also. The real thing is that on a completely separate page online there was a discussion that a flathead needed a minimum of 125 gallons if this is all true about flatheads being basically the same fish as an RTC with the only difference being color and appetite then why do people say red tail catfish need 10,000 gallons?? Don't worry I don't plan to put my RTC in a 125 I'm just curious

That's bull... They are completely different fish, will both eat live and dead foods and need similar sized enclosures. The good thing about the flathead is that you can keep it in outdoor ponds in large parts of the world.

I don't think anybody here's going to tell you a 125 is adequate for a flathead for life.

Flatheads and RTC are quite different, though they do have some similarities. They're not even the same family of catfish but both are monsters and need housing large enough to accommodate them.

Flathead catfish are extremely different from rtc. Housing would be about equal i would say. Flatheads are much less active though and generally mine is only active at night. Rtc seems to grow a bit faster although flatheads do grow relatively fast. They are vastly different though. Flatheads can reach 5' and weigh over 150 lbs. This is rare though. If house properly im sure you could raise one to 4' and around 50-60 lbs easily
