I have had him for about 5 months now and his tail has not gotten red at all, mainly like a brownish color (rusty). Iv tried everything: beefheart, bloodworms, fresh market shrimp, worms, salmon fillets, even CARROTS that i hid in his food!! raw chicken breast, only once though.

any ideas? or do i just have the runt of the liter? lol

PS. hes 13" if that helps any.

Can I see pics, I would think the shrimp's carotene would have done it but i guess not, try crayfish.

you never know how many times it was bread since wild. i would say it my be inbred? i got one from my lfs and never showed red until it was 13" and it was still rather rusty. fed it high protein and everything. GL

Yes, it will. Both are incompatible in the first place.

yea thats a pretty good point, he would suck him up like a shop vac, lol he doesnt eat any small fish or feeders for that matter, so he might not eat the crayfish at all, but i do know the TSN would, the tiger shovel nose is half the size of the RTC but will eat anything he can get his little mouth around. iv lost four gouramis(dont ask), 2 gold saums, and a firmemouth which i thought would of never fit in his mouth, lol

the rtc is like a little gentle giant, or lazy
