Does anyone know what the record size RTC in captivity? Not wild caught specimens.
Anybody have one over 4'?
Thanks

Welcome to the forum, friend. Excellent question. Not first-hand but from everything I read and hear, no one has claimed a significantly longer than 4' total length RTC in captivity, except maybe some Public Aquaria but those guys are in a league of their own and I've never come across any one working at a P. A. in any forums.

that is a realy good question i think the biggest i have herd of was a little under 4 feet and i have seen a few that were a little over 3. it kinda makes you wonder how big thay can get in captivity

Thanks everyone for the quick reply. Anyone have any pics of the cats and the system filtration, tanks etc. I ask because as a store owner I have a large one that I use to discourage the average guy from purchasing RTC babies and try to get them on Large cats that max out at 1-2'. Anyway my cat is currently in a 400 gallon system and around 24" he's probably only about 1.5 yrs old. I would like to get him into a system in the back that is 12x12x4 concrete tank with 1 viewing window and need ideas for filtration and flow etc. Also wouldn't mind having a cat grow to it's full potential. I think 3700 gallons should be sufficient for one cat and various visiting large barbs and other fish (potential food).

There is a article in tropical fish hobbyist in which a hobbist has a huge outdoor pond. For tropical monsters and his redtail catfish are fourty eight inches long in his large pond. And they are several years old if I read the article correctly . So I wounder if they really get larger than four feet in captivity .

I would suggest looking in the DIY subforum and the Indoor Ponds one for ideas. There are a few very nice builds around here.

btw- there are a few members that are P A workers but don't bandy it about much.
