red tail catfish

my red tail catfish's tail is brown why not red it was white when i bought him he is about 4 inches

I'm not positive but I beleive it has something to do with there region they were caught in and vitamin deficiency.

The color will change to red-orange when he gets some size. When he hits about 8 inches or so you'll notice a difference.

Amazon pretty much hit it on the head. Their tails start as a rusty brown and make the transition into a red as they mature. Mine is at the 5-6" mark and I can already notice some red appearing.

Mine was about 2 ft long after 2 years, he decided to eat a 15inch bass, and couldn't get it down so he died.

All the RTCs Ive seen at the LFS have had the reddish brown tail, cept for a few nice big ones.

mine has a rusty tail lol just thought id say

Mine was about 6 inches before he started getting some red, and after a water change his tail still goes to a rust colour then switches back
