Hi keepers! How are you?
I´m new in this forum and this is my very first thread!

I bought a red tail payara 2 days ago and she´s not eating (neither tiny feeders). When I was inspecting her mouth I noticed that one of her fangs is missing and the other fang is located outside of the mouth, like a truth sabbertooth fish :WTF:. The fang seems to be fixed but it´s obvious that it isn't the normal position.

She can open and close her mouth almost normaly, and definely can bite (she bit my hand yesterday), she is very active swimming in my qt. But until now she don´t eat anything...

She had 5 inches

- Do you think that she is not eating because she is injured or because she doesn´t acclimated yet?

any advice???

Sorry for my poor english...Thank´s in advance!

Welcome to MFK! From your description, your red tail payara is shedding her tooth. It's perfectly normal for payara. They shed pretty much every month so they can grow bigger ones. It just shows that the payara is growing. New fangs are located inside the jaw of the fish so when it comes out, it will be in a slanted position. The fang will straighten out soon. No need to be concerned.

She is probability stressed from the move to the new tank so it might not eat right away. Give it a few days. How big is the tank?

That´s a good news!

Thank you lix!

She is in a qt of 40 gallons right now. My display has 140 gallons.

Welcome to the forum! :)

I agree with lix, your little girl is just shedding her teeth. She'll be ready to eat in a week or so. :)

The 140 gallon would be great for a tat.

The combination of being moved into a new tank with the fact that it's shedding teeth is likely the reason it isn't eating. Should be fine within a week or so, I wouldn't worry at all. Great pickup, post some pics when you get time.
