red tail payara questions (I am a noob)

So i have been checking out some red tail payara at a lfs.. They have them for $50.00 each. 6" or so.. My question is will they eat and or kill angel fish that are around half dollar size (2.5-3" long)or a little bigger? i have my ray tank that has 4-6" rays and 4 nice sized angels and would love to add a couple of red tail's but don't want the angels to become a snack...?

wish I could help you bro. I only have rhaphs and scombs and they are very mellow...don't mess with anyone. What are the tats with at the LfS? I am intrigued by the info you are requesting too so I hope more qualified MFKers chime in soon. VampTrev could probably help.

I wish there were some tats around me though.

At half dollar size they would be seen as food. And would get swiped at but maybe not eaten. But if they were bigger they would be fine. For a 6'' TAT anything over say 3-4'' long head to tail would be fine 99% of the time. Tat's are my all time favorite fish and I had 3 for a long time and just a few weeks ago lost 2 of them to a power outage that lasted a week. I would reccomend getting more than one. They are a shoaling/schooling fish and do alot better in a school from what i have seen. Mine were skittish and shy when i only had the first one. And once i added the other 2 there personality really opened up. I still have one and i am on the hunt for up to 5 more. So now i need to ask where these are located.

im not exactly sure how big angel fish actually are at that size.
arent they really tall?
tats usually dont mess with things they cant eat.
IMO a 6 inch tat cant eat a 3 inch angel fish...
but remember,tats can get to 18" or more.
angel fish 6" i think...

How big are the rays? My rays have aquired a taste for Hydros. Rhaph is fine, but ALL Hydros are gone.

Well that is depressing news, I too was looking to get some to go with
my rays. Is this true with even young pups?

turns out they were all scombs this time.... BUt my rays in that tank are all small, like 6" hybrid is the biggest ray. I will try again soon to see if they have any red tails..
