Hello everyone I recently picked up a used 135 gallon and I plan on stocking it with 3 red tail payara, 3 red tail baracuda and 2 synodontis angelicus. The aquarium will be filtrated using two fx5 canister units and one 150xf maxspect gyre for water flow. Some of my concerns would be weather or not the payara and the red tail baracudas can live together and if there will be enough space. Also the flow with the maxspect and canisters will equal 5000-6000 GPH which is ideal for payara but will the red tail cudas be stressed from the extra water movement? aquarium dimensions are standard 72x18x24. Thanks for any input.

The red tail cudas likely end up being lunch. The payara will predate on the them. The size difference is big issue. Not only that but the red tail cudas will be stressed out from the other fish. That will cause them to not eat sometimes. Cudas are known to hit glass when spooked and die and the bigger fish will do this. The current you mentioned is not for red tail cudas. They like still waters with no current. The current may make them stressed or bang into glass/acrylic.

One option is to have a large tank and have it separated with driftwood and plants. Not sure if can do this. So there is a 1/3 top zone and 2/3 bottom. The pump can be placed below and the bigger fish can stay there with the other fish on top. The idea is to have the fish separate and never cross zones due to heavy foliage/wood. Feeding is very localized and a pain in the butt. It can be done, I had a tank with fish that wound to get along and were able to keep it for a while.

I hope what I said helps.
