Well heres the problem. I have a 150 gallon Plaster tub i have my 23 in S.A. Redtail Catsh in. The Tank has began to leak (slow but steady). I got a 180 gallon in my living room basically empty. My dad is afraid of him breaking though the glass. The cost for a new plastic tub is out of this world. I have a couple people that will sell me a 300 gallon tank but at a costly price. I will only have the red tail in the 180 gallon tank for a tops of 5 months. And I was looking for some feedback about the red tail catfish breaking the glass. Atm i cant afford another plastic tank and i deffiantly cant afford a 300 gallon.

how thick is the glass because if he gets spooked at that size there is always a possibility of a crack occuring abd depending on feeding your fish may become cery uncomfortable in there even by itself i think it will be fine for a short time but a pond or upgrade is a must in the future as you well know good luck and keep us updated

It is quite possible that it could break the tank. I would by a 300 gallon stock tank before buying a 300 glass tank. much cheaper and you know it won't bust out.

just my two cents, it looks liek your at three choices, fix what you have and put him back in there, put him in the 180 and pray, or buy a new tub. Personally i'd go with a new tub. albeit a slightly more costly route upfront, in the long run it will pay off. You can go to tractor supply and buy a rubber maid trough http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/rubbermaidreg%3B-structural-foam-stock-tanks-300-gal--capacity

we use these in my wet lab for a aquaponics system with talapia and veggies on top. they are incredibly durable and pretty easy to plumb through. and with the dark colors your redtail will feel like he's blending right in.

+1 rubbermaids are great.

My impression is that 99% of fish-breaking-glass incidents are a result of poor, unlevel installation, bad stand, floor caving, etc. which puts stress on the glass and the joints. Then it takes less or little to break it.
