You'd want a hydrloycus scomberoides. Max out at about 8-10" and grow at a decent clip. Its the smallest of the hydrolycus genus (smallest of the Payaras)

And the red tail payara would actually be a hydrolycus tatauaia which is the second largest payara.
They Max out about 12-15"

More like will payara be able to hang w/ lent. Ik they have big teeth but mine hasn't shown too much aggression. My brokopondo bass runs my vampire tetra but doesn't do real damage. I've seen my vamp take swipes at other fish nervously, but it hasn't really bitten any. He kind of hangs out and shoots out to grab krill an goes back to his hang out.

i have 1 scrob around 4.5 inches, 2 sabertusk which is around 5.5 inches, 1 4 inch african tiger fish, 2 sucker fishes around 8 inches long and 1 2.5 inch silver dollar. mines usually chill at its hang out spot and it seems like they grow super slow. i had my sabertusk for almost a month and they almost doubled in size. i think youll be fine with that red tail and that lent. i plan on getting a red tail soon then the armatus when they all reach close to 6-7 inches
