How can you tell the difference between a red terror aka Festea and a fake red terror? Im curious since I am going to pick some up from this guy who has a breeding pair?

Post pics and we can tell you.

TRUE festae have a SMALL white ring near the top of the caudal base. Urophthalmus have the same white ring, but it's larger and pretty much extends from top to bottom of the caudal base.

Urophthalmus are also much more banded while festae often have their bars washed out depending on mood.

Urophthalmus also are more pink.

Festae are also pretty drab when small compared to Urophthalmus, and festae are also more pointy shaped.

The first thing to look for is the tail spot. On the Uro it's going to be larger covering the top and bottom portion of the tail. On the Festae, it will be smaller and only on the upper half of the tail. The Uro also has a more washed out looking coloration.

Thanks Any other tips you guys have? Cause i dont wanna buy the fish then find out it was not what i payed for

This feels like Jeopardy - whoever pushes the button first LOL

Here's a pic of my festae as a baby. She's yellow as a juvie but is very red now at about 4-4 1/2". The stripes make a "y" shape near the head. This is an F1 from Rapps. They're very slow growers too.

Alex I'll take central and south american cichlids for $500.

About how big was your fish when you took the pic cause i am guestimating 2 inches and that is one nice fish. Im glad they are slow growers since i am repairing a 300 gallon tank so I'd need a little time to get it ready for him and the others

is GORGEOUS!!!!! Best looking female I've seen in a long time! Got a mate for her?
