I got 4 awesome festae fry about 2 months ago. And last night I went back to the guy and got 10 more. But I noticed that the new guys I just brought home are a little larger and have better markings/more markings. What have I been doing wrong?

Tank: 125g
Filter: Rena XP4
Hi PH: 8.0
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
NitrAte 2.0

Sharing the tank with 18 baby kribensis, about the same age. That I did not have the heart to suck up before giving all the adult kribensis away on craigslist. But now I wish I did not save the fry Kribensis. But now I have my smaller 4 kribensis from 2 months ago and the 10 new ones. And they are all from the same batch/litter/parents.

I feed them some cheep omega cichlid flake food, and the frozen food I feed them are like Beefheart, bloodworms, brine shrimp, and some other shrimp from petsmart in a green wrapper. They are feed 3+ times a day, and each feeding is something different. I even get a cup add some tank water, and use a turkey baster and direct the food into there direction.

The reason for the baster was something I read back when I breed the kribensis and it said its good to use a baster to make sure all the fry get there food in one place. verses all over the tank. I did not have any hiding places when I first got them. I was told to keep out the hiding places to help kep a eye on them after the 1.5hr car drive back home at such a young age. My Rena xp3 makes good current. Anything I place on the left hand side of the tank. Always drifts to the right side. And my canisters intake tube has a media bag net I have used to protect the small fish from getting sucked in.

Can anyone tell me what Im doing wrong? Other then the 10 new guys being in the same tank they were hatched in all this time and with there parents. I cant think of anything. And if the PH is really that high... Is there any natural ways to lower it. I want them happy as they grow. And I already have another 125g and 90g and id get another tank for them as they grow. As I know of there attitudes and size.

THANKS YAll

Live food anf frequent water changes (like bi-weekly) regular light patterns. Also, Xtreme Monster pellets and Cheerios work well to nourish future monsters.

Wow. Talk about a goof. Long story short.

In looking for a answer to what I may be doing wrong. I wanted to share info on the number of fish in this 125g tank also.

I have like 18 kribensis. Baby's and 4 festae babys in a 125g tank and the 10 new baby festae I just added look larger then the 4 I got a while back. So I have been worried if I have been doing something wrong.

A part of me thinks its my ph being at 8.0 when I have read they need lower ph. Like 7.0.

Or they are just larger, due to being with and in there original tank and mom and dad.

Or I thouth maby the new festae are male and the first 4 I got 2 months ago. Just happen to be girls.

Or im just doing something wrong in raising them.

leave the PH alone why does everyone worry about the PH ? got nothing to due with growth..

power feed 2-3 times a day , nice varied diet and do large water changes, I also keep carbon in grow tanks to reduce/limit hormonal pheromones between water changes...
