I recently just had a Flowerhorn that died today, and now I'm concerned with my Large Red Terror not eating. He doesn't have an appetite like the rest of the fish and hasn't really ate much since I got him 2 wks ago. Could this be a sign of something, some illness? or is this normal?

yeah that's what i'm thinking is that he doesn't like the food. he looks real healthy and is the dominator of the tank. really healthy all around i'm just a lil bit worried that he doesn't eat much.

Was your FH and RT in the same tank? Did you QT both fish before adding to this tank?

Do you know why your FH died?

they were in the same tank for about a week i had the FH, and about 2 weeks i've had the RT. i suppose the FH had died of worms and stress after i moved him to a hospital tank. i had tried medicating the tank and the FH just wasn't strong enough. i've had the RT longer and the other fish in the tank are healthy.

I posted pics of the FH and some ppl said it looked like he had worms.

So how long was the RT exposed to the FH?

Internal parasites can be spread to the other fish, so I would recommend treating with Prazi.

Also, if you can.. I would try feeding something fresh.. like krill, bloodworms, beefheart.. something that might perk up the RT's appetite.

yeah i'm wondering how long it would take the parasites to go to the other fish in the tank. the FH was only in the tank about a week maybe a couple days longer. I have seen the RT eat just doesn't eat much of the pellets that the other fish go crazy for. also i've had the RT for about 2 wks and he's been like this even before i got the FH.

I think the biggest mistake was not QTing the RT first. If you have only had him for 2 weeks, IMO, he should still be in QT, but it's too late, so you should treat your entire tank.

There is no telling if the other fish contracted anything or not, so better safe then sorry.

As for not eating like the others... My Jag did that after I stopped feeding massivore, and started feeding cichlid gold.. he refused to eat it.. But, he ate it when he got hungry enough, and now he's a pig. But, drop in massivore, and it starts all over again. haha.

Leave the lights off for a week, and treat your tank. I think everything should be ok.

thanks. i've heard from others to treat the tank so i think i'm gonna order the meds too.
