I saw a bunch of small red terror fry at my lfs and was thinking about getting one ore two, but I don't know much about them, I have owned green terror before, but are these guys cross bred specimens or do they occur naturally? Will they be similar as far as size and temperament to the greens? And if you do google image search some are gorgeouse with bright colors and defined stripes, where as others show little to no color at all...

There is no comparison between the two. They both use the word terror buts thats it for being any where near the same.

Dude, if you dont know much, dont step into a landmine thats gonna blowup on you.

Right now, you should assume the odds are 50/50. Maybe Festaes, maybe Mayans.

Beautiful fish, and definitely fulfilling to watch them grow out from a small size. You are better getting at least six to grow out in hopes of getting a pair. Good luck and welcome to the Festae craze :nilly:

Seriously? You just completely confused the OP now.

LOL, sorry OP. Make sure that they truly are Festaes (Red Terrors). If you'd like or if possible, take some CLEAR pics and let us tell you (er, debate for you), lol.

There are too many situations where False Red Terrors are sold as Real Red Terrors. Look up False Red Terrors if you dont know. GL

Hey thank you everyone for the replies, I'm going back to the lfs on Sunday, so I think I'll pick a couple up then, also I appreciate the warning about the false reds, but in case I'm unable to get a pic up or a reply back in time are there any fairly obvious difference between the true and the false red terrors?

True Festae's bars form a "Y" or "4" shape, and their false eye spot in their tail is off centered, Mayan's bars will go straight up and down and not form a Y or 4 and their false eye will be centered
