Hey guys, I'm new to MFK, but not very new to the hobby. I work at a lfs and we're selling a fish that we were told was a festae red terror. I have very little experience with them and I was wondering if you think that's what he is? I personally don't think so, but bossman says he is. Thanks in advance, and I'm glad to be a member!

That's a Festae.

It looks like it has black extending onto the dorsal fin, that would indicate a female. The picture isn't too clear but like I said if the black extends onto the dorsal it's a girl.

That doesn't look Festae to me. Looks like it though

Y pattern on the head, eye spot in the upper 2/3 of the Caudal peduncle measured through the lateral line. What's not festae about that fish?

its face. But you can be right. Idk. Just desn't look Festae all the way. Maybe a Mayan. More pictures

I agree with both of you. The fish has the distinct traits of a festae, the y bar and the high eye spot. However the body shape looks too tall almost like a trimac or a midas. I think it might be a festae that has been inbreed for many generations, possibly causing a sleight deformity or abnormal shape.

It looks like a Mayan to me. Festae has the double eye spot like this.
