Very pretty specimen, only you can say if it’s a good deal or not depending on your going local area rate.
Looks to be a female to me. Is it the only one in the tank? If not it’s possible it’s a male that took on female coloration to avoid aggression. But it not then I’d guess female.

I don't mind paying for quality fish , so I guess my question would be does it look like a good one
If you are looking for a mate for your 2.5" male, I'd recommend getting 3 females about the same size and letting him pick his favorite. No guarantee this large female and your small male will like each other. That will probably be cheaper as well.
with that said, 80 for that festae doesn't seem too bad to me. Nice fish, definitely female.

The dark area in the dorsal is a female trait.
