I've been looking for red terrors in my town for many years and finally a store brought some in. They are 1 inch and I bought six to place in a grow out tank with a 3 inch jaguar. Is this a recipe for disaster or will the number of fry be able to dilute the aggression of the jaguar? The tank has lots of wood, rocks and plants as well so there is tons of hiding/escapes. My other option is to move the jaguar to a 33 gallon with two 3-4inch green terrors. What is my best option?

The tank is a grow out tank so this in not a long term home. If many of the red terrors survive then they will go to different homes and as they grow the tank size will also increase. In then end 1 male and female is all I'm really hoping to keep.

If the terrors mean that much to you and they have taken years to acquire, then take the Jag to your LFS. You can always buy a smaller Jag (hey, they are very easy to get) or get a med/large Jag later (after your terrors have grown, sufficiently).

I would def move the jag, with that much size difference it will only be a matter of time before your jag has festae snacks. Plus you mentioned how long you have wanted your festae you gotta weigh if it's worth risking them. You may also wanna try craigslist for a cheap tank, or try the dollar a gallon petco sale. Good luck and welcome to the festae craze :)

Hey! Thanks all. Yeah I've been waiting years for these fish to surface around home i definitely do not want to lose them. So far the jag is still in and the festaes are eating well but the jag does keep them near the top part of the tank. He's not big enough to eat them yet but he could nip'em. Gonna try to catch him with a bloodworm lure tonight and then try him with the two green terrors. Lovin these baby festae!!!! They're cool even when they are small!
