Hi guys - I was thinking about starting a breeding project. However, looking at this from the outside it might not seem too bad but when you start digging into it, you see that you need a lot more then one or two tanks and a lot more fish.

If I wanted to take a crack at creating a Red Texas cichlid could you give me an idea for what is needed in terms of how many fish (then breaking that down to how many males and females?) and how many tanks?

Thanks a lot for your help

Thanks for the info but i was looking for some more specific answers. RT was an idea the more important questions was how many fish are needed and how many tanks.

I know it is expensive but that was not my question.

Aquatic Aggression - thanks for that info, i did not know that.

Figure 1 tank as a permanent home for your initial breeders and 1 tank for initial grow out. Then you will keep your best of the first spawn while getting rid of the rest. If you don't have many tanks it will mean you have to rehome a lot of fish.

Most male red Texas hybrids are infertile FYI.

I have heard of a few fertile males CJ has a couple...
but yes your correct most of the males are in fertile...
as far as tanks this is cjbarths fish room from youtube
