I got these two red texas cichlids from petsmart this week. They are both 2-3" . I vented them and found out they are male and female so I tried to put them together in a 29 to grow them out but found out that the male is very aggressive toward her and doesnt let her get comfortable so I put him with my bigger green terrors witch he was with before I got the female. What should I do to get her comfortable and still house them together

What I did with mine is i took some bricks and made a little hideaway maze for the female in one side of the tank. She was able to get away and hide and come out and get to know the male better on her terms when he wasn't feeling like a jerk. This may only work if the male is too large to follow her. You might put some dithers in as well so all his aggression isn't focused on her.

rite now his is in my 40 breeder with my pair of gts and 2 small gts , he doesnt bother the bigger pair cause he learned the hard way my gt male will beat the snot out of him but when he goes in the 29 he just chases her around. i would try the brick thing but idk how well it will work cause shes slightly bigger then him but hes getting chubby lately he looked really under feed when i first picked him up. i was thinking of leaving her in the 29 alone and let her get adjusted then after a week or two throw him in there.

i would let the female go solo in the 29 for at least a week or two. let her get comfortable and claim it as hers. once you reintroduce the male she should be a lot more confident. maybe you could introduce one of your smaller gt's first so she can get a little dominant for a couple days then throw the male RT back in.

i just picked up 2 more females while i was in petsmart getting filter media for my aqua clears , i put them in the 29 with my first female and the 2 smaller gts. i hopefully it will better the odds of him breeding with one of the females imma wait a week or two to put him in the 29.
