Lfs has a juvie red Texas for $7. He's only about 1.5" but already showing good colors and already aggressive. He was definitely the alpha in the tank with the other rts. I just started a CA/SA grow out tank with my new 180 and was wondering how he would fit in. In the 180 right now are a bunch of 2.5"-3.5" Viejas. Anybody with experiences with these guys want to chime in on how they do in a fairly aggressive community?

Like all cichlids, it entirely depends on the personality of the fish, and the other fish that it is grown out with. Might work just fine, might get it's head taken off 6 months from now. No way to tell without trying.

I think he'll be fine in there. Texas and redtexas are pretty fast. Red texas are mean from their red side of thhe family. Viejas arent enough to hold him down once he adapts. He's alpha male now at the store, but if he grows to the Vieja size, he'll be alpha in your tank too.

Just wasn't sure on their aggressive level. I really like him so I'll go pick him up if he's still there. Thanks guys

So did you pick him up? any pictures ?
