Picked this up as a fry sold as a red texas. I posted about it awhile ago. I knowit was not a red texas when i bought it. I bought it on the agression it showed so small. Fish is a hog. Eats everything non stop. About 5-6" now. I believe it is female as she goes in and out of a texas type breeding color and shd is super mean. Glass bangs.bites tubing on water changes.bites fingers and hand if in the tank. She has developed red based fins and alot of blue pearl. What are your thoughts of hybrid?20181028_144118.jpg 20181028_144105.jpg 20181028_144059.jpg 20181028_144047.jpg

Well yes it is a hybrid, which is all a "red texas" is, a carpintis based hybrid. So, yeah if you want to call it a "red texas" or a "flowerhorn" go for it, it's not a scientifically described species either way. Justa hybrid CA cichlid. It is a nice looking fish

Looks like a typical first generation RT. Male H. carpintis x female BP most common cross.

Would you guess this fish to be male or female? I would like to pair it up with something.

I agree with the others, a simple hybrid of Herichthys and something else.
From the dark spot in the dorsal, and more torpedo shape, looks to be a female.

I agree with Duane, looks female to me.

That's up to you, and what you are attempting to do.
