Red Texas, what exactly goes into making them?
I’ve heard bp x Texas, fh x Texas, Red devil x Texas, and some mix of all of those.
Are they just selectively bred and actually pure Texas?

Just curious, thanks in advance!

There are any line bred Herichthys sp are regarded as "Red Texas". I don't think it's even possible. The only true Texas cichlid is Herichthys cyanoguttatus

The Red Texas Cichlid is a hybrid. I think the breeding process is a male Texas Cichlid x female Blood Parrot. Female offspring is bred back to a male Texas Cichlid.
I believe most male Red Texas Cichlids are sterile.
Not all the offspring fade to red. A large percentage remain blue.
I've read that female Red Devil / Midas & Flowerhorn are sometimes thrown into the mix.
Here's a pic of an unfaded Red Texas I once kept. I traded him in at the 10 inch mark. I also got tired of getting bit during WC's. Lol

He looks very good. I figured it was probably a parrot hybrid, but wasn’t sure. Thanks!
